This is a good quality pair of antique Victorian mahogany bedside chests, circa 1860.
The tops features practical “splash backs” to help items falling off the tops of the bedsides behind them. Each bedside chest boasts traditional square cornered moulded edges to the top and the bedsides sit on matching square plinths. The drawers feature working locks and a key. Both chests are constructed of good quality solid mahogany timber, which also features their original polish and patination. The quality is reflected in the weight of these bedsides; they are heavy to lift! During this period, England was imported top quality timber from its colonies.
These bedsides feature a rich but mellow mahogany colour. As they boast the original polish, they have a fantastic colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received.
Condition Report:
These adapted bedside chests are in very good condition. Nominal old use marks but nothing significant considering the age of the item. The drawers are smooth running and close flush to the frame. The drawers feature the original turned mahogany knobs along with working locks and a key. The drawers are pine drawer lined, hand-dovetailed with mahogany drawer bottoms; this is a sign of superb quality. As they boast the original polish, they have a fantastic colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received. The mahogany gives a superb colour and patination. The quality is reflected in the weight of these bedsides; they are heavy to lift! They are both solid in joint and ready to use.
