A Remarkable George II Corner Cabinet

18th century
Description

A truly superb and important mid-18th century bow-front Cuban mahogany CORNER CABINET of wonderful colour and patina.

As corner cabinets go, they do not get much better than this ~ below the shaped and deeply-moulded "swan-neck" pediment, the two bow-fronted doors are comprised of eight "flame" mahogany panels edged with boxwood stringing and flanked by elegant 'stop-fluted' columns to either side.

At the base of these columns are beautifully carved 'capitals' of gadrooning and a swirling shell, whilst all the hinges; escutcheons and locks are original. The interior comprises four shaped shelves and three shallow drawers within the base. Original key. Colour ~ just gorgeous!
