Description

This antique French rosewood vitrine is in lovely condition & has some beautiful marquetry of many different colourful woods on the door & side panels. It has a great shape & many nice features. The top, bottom section & the legs are all ebonized. This cabinet has plenty of gilt metal mounts & decorative strips all over. The shaped glass on the door is original, but the bowed glass sides have been replaced with a kind of clear perspex, which look like glass until one taps it. This is how I obtained it. I should imagine that the original glass was broken & replaced with this. Personally I wouldn't bother changing it, because it looks fine & would probably cost at least £150 each panel or maybe more. The inside is lined with the original fabric, which does show a little bit of wear, but not too bad. I believe this display cabinet dates from around the 1890-1910 period.

Width --- 32" (81cm)

Depth --- 18" (47)

Height --- 68" (173)

Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
