This eighteenth century French provincial housekeeper's cupboard originates from around 1770 and is built from solid oak with a dark brown waxed finish and iron hardware. The piece comes in two sections beneath a slim flared cornice and a moulded frieze centred with a carved star motif. Both the upper and lower pairs of cupboard doors have shaped raised and fielded panels surrounded by moulding, embellished with carved star rosettes in the top corners, and secured with long polished steel hinges and escutcheon plates. The base stands on short cabriole feet with a scrolled front and an attractively shaped apron centred with a carved fan detail, while the interior provides storage across multiple fitted shelves. Measuring 241.5 cm high, 157.5 cm wide, and 61 cm deep, this large storage furniture stands at an impressive scale suited to traditional country kitchens, dining rooms, or spacious hallways. The traditional proportions and classic French chateau aesthetic allow it to function as a striking standalone display and storage cabinet for tableware, linens, or dry goods in a contemporary interior setting.

A French housekeepers cupboard, often termed a buffet deux-corps, is a tall two-piece cabinet designed during the 18th century to store household linens, tableware, and pantry goods.

These cupboards were predominantly constructed using solid native hardwoods like oak, walnut, or fruitwood, held together with wooden peg joinery and fitted with hand-forged iron hardware.

Authentic 18th-century pieces display hand-sawn timber marks, hand-pegged mortise and tenon joints, uneven aging on rear backboards, and natural oxidisation around original iron keyplates.

A large oak cupboard functions as a freestanding kitchen pantry, a dining room china cabinet, or a primary linen storage unit within a main bedroom suite.

Preserve the oak surface by applying a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year and keeping the cabinet away from direct heat radiators or excessive humidity.
