This French Belle Epoque mantel clock set, dating from 1880, comprises a mantel clock and two matching urn garnitures. Formed from gilt brass, the pieces display multicoloured champleve enamel geometric banding in shades of blue, red, and white, alongside acanthus leaf moulding, a stepped base, and a decorative finial shaped as an urn. The clock face shows Arabic numerals and a champleve centre, while the garnitures include mask handles. The central mantel clock measures 34 cm high, 18.5 cm wide, and 13 cm deep. Suitable for placement on a mantelpiece, this matching set serves as a functional timepiece and decorative display arrangement. The movement on the backplate is stamped with the maker Samuel Marti and operates on an eight-day duration, striking the hours and half hours on a gong. The cleaned movement is accompanied by a twelve-month guarantee, and the set integrates well into a traditional interior scheme as a focal point on a shelf or sideboard.

A French clock garniture is a decorative three-piece set popularised in the nineteenth century, featuring a central mantel clock accompanied by two matching side pieces such as ornamental urns, vases, or candelabra designed for symmetrical display.

These sets typically feature a cast brass or gilded bronze casing carved with recessed cells. These cells are filled with vitreous enamel paste in various colours, fired at high temperatures, and polished flush with the metal surface.

Authentic French movements often feature round maker stamps pressed into the back plate, such as those from recognised horologists like Samuel Marti, along with serial numbers, countwheel strike mechanisms, and heavy cast brass componentry.

Position the central clock at the midpoint of a fireplace mantelpiece, console table, or sideboard, arranging the two matching urns at equal distances on either side to anchor the space with formal symmetry.

Dust the exterior gently with a soft microfibre cloth, avoiding chemical polishes or water which can degrade the fire-gilded finish or loosen enamel inlay. The mechanical movement should be serviced by a professional horologist every five to seven years.
