This Edwardian combination desk compendium dates from circa 1905 and is formed from mahogany with boxwood inlay, brass, and glass. The rich brown timber case displays an arched dome top fitted with a central ornate brass carrying handle, small brass finials at the upper corners, and four stepped brass bracket feet at the base. The front incorporates light-toned floral and ribbon marquetry swags, geometric stringing, a circular clock dial with Roman numerals on the left, a circular aneroid barometer dial on the right, and a vertical thermometer mounted centrally between them. Each instrument sits within a polished brass bezel. A separate metal winding key rests alongside the base. The object measures 22.8 cm high, 22.8 cm wide, and 8.3 cm deep. Positioned on an office desk or a mantelpiece in a gentleman's library, study, or living room, the compendium serves as a practical multi-instrument desk accessory. The mechanical clock operates via the included key, while the barometer indicates atmospheric pressure changes and the thermometer displays temperature readings. Natural daylight reflects off the curved glass faces of the instrument bezels and the polished surfaces of the brass hardware. The compact footprint suits placement on writing desks, sideboards, or bookshelf surfaces where traditional timekeeping and weather observation instruments are useful.

An Edwardian desk compendium is a combined horological and meteorological instrument housed within a single cabinet, produced during the reign of King Edward VII from 1901 to 1910. These pieces typically integrate a clock, aneroid barometer, and fluid thermometer into an inlaid wooden case.

Craftspeople typically constructed these compendiums using mahogany or walnut veneers, ornamented with boxwood or satinwood marquetry inlays. The mechanical elements consist of brass bezels, glass crystal covers, mercury or spirit glass thermometers, and enamel or silvered dials.

Authentic Edwardian compendiums display hand-cut marquetry, natural age-related patination on brass elements, and period-correct typography on the dials. Examining maker marks, movement serial numbers, and slotted-screw joinery inside the casing helps confirm period manufacture.

Position the instrument on an office desk, mantelpiece, or sideboard top alongside leather-bound books or botanical displays. The mahogany tone and brass hardware complement traditional dark wood furniture as well as contemporary neutral schemes.

Keep the object away from direct sunlight, radiators, and high humidity to prevent wood shrinkage or veneer lifting. Clean brass components gently with a soft dry cloth rather than abrasive polishes, and have clock mechanisms serviced by a qualified horologist every five to seven years.
