This small Burmantofts pottery vase, dating from around 1890 in the Arts and Crafts style, comes from Leeds. The earthenware ceramic vessel displays a squat, bulbous body covered in a monochrome, dusky pink glossy glaze, finished with a crimped and lobed rim. Visible details include concentric throwing rings inside the neck, a subtle indented fluting around the lower body, and a smooth reflective surface. The item measures 7 x 9 cm. Ideal for an English Country House aesthetic, the vase sits suitably on a bookshelf, mantelpiece, or side table to hold small seasonal stems or stand alone as a decorative accent. It provides a subtle pop of colour within a traditional or eclectic interior scheme, bringing period charm to compact display spaces.

Burmantofts pottery refers to art earthenware and decorative ceramic faience manufactured in Leeds, England, primarily produced between the late 19th and early 20th centuries during the Aesthetic and Arts and Crafts movements.

These vessels were crafted from refined earthenware clay, kiln-fired, and finished with monochrome or translucent lead glazes that produced varied tone depth and lustre across contoured surfaces.

Authentic items frequently bear impressed base marks, such as BURMANTOFTS FAIENCE or a BF monogram, accompanied by impressed shape numbers stamped directly into the unglazed underside.

A small glazed vase functions well as a decorative accent on a bookshelf, coffee table, or mantelpiece, providing subtle colour contrast against modern minimalist backdrops or natural wood surfaces.

Dust the surface regularly with a dry, soft microfibre cloth and avoid total submersion in water, as fine glaze crazing can allow moisture to penetrate the porous earthenware underneath.
