Historically used in 19th-century kitchens and pantries, a two-part cupboard features an upper cabinet resting upon a lower base unit, facilitating transport and providing both display and concealed storage.

These pieces were predominantly constructed from European pine, joined using hand-cut dovetails, simple tongue-and-groove backing boards, and glass panel doors.

Look for hand-planed timber surfaces, slight irregularities in original glass panels, hand-cut dovetail joints on drawers, and natural shrinkage gaps along backboards consistent with age.

Balance the warm timber tones by pairing it with neutral wall palettes, displaying modern ceramics or glassware inside the glazed top section, and utilizing the base for hidden storage.

Apply a high-quality beeswax paste once or twice a year to nourish the timber, dust regularly with a soft dry cloth, and keep away from direct heat sources to prevent cracking.
