FAQs

Dutch Delftware is a form of tin-glazed earthenware produced in and around Delft in the Netherlands from the 16th century onwards, heavily influenced by Chinese porcelain imported by the Dutch East India Company.

They are crafted from refined clay fired at low temperatures and coated with an opaque white tin glaze, which is hand-painted with cobalt oxide decoration before a final clear glaze firing.

Authentic pieces display reddish or buff earthenware visible at unglazed rim areas, a soft tin-glaze texture, variations in cobalt blue intensity, and period maker marks on the underside.

A pair of blue and white Delft urns works well placed symmetrically on a sideboard, fireplace mantelpiece, or console table to establish visual balance.

Clean gently using a dry, soft cloth or slightly damp microfibre cloth, avoiding full immersion in water, harsh detergents, or abrasive materials that could damage the glaze.
