Fabulous Antique Royal Crown Derby Miniature Porcelain Vase & Cover Patt. 6299 Imari Witches

1900 - 1920
For Sale by The Fancy Fox
Description

A gorgeous little Royal Crown Derby porcelain vase and cover, of inverted baluster form, with domed cover with pagoda shape knop and deep curved inner flange. Hand painted in a classic imari inspired pattern known as the Witches pattern, a striking design with alternating panels of rich underglaze blue reserving white and iron red flowers on a scrolling gilt vine, and an exotic flowering plant painted on the white ground in red and green enamel, gilt and underglaze blue. The white panels flow over the blue ones to create an elegant flow to the design.

The border frieze around the neck, and to the cover, are sections of underglazed blue, intersected with white and gilt lines, with alternating reserved designs of flowers and diamonds in red and gilt. Finished with a gilt castellated band underneath, and further gilt decoration to the foot, rims and knop. Both cover and base marked with the company stamp and date cipher for 1924, painted model/shape number 1339 over pattern number 6299, and decorator's mark.

It measures 11.5cm (4 1/2") high and 7cm (2 3/4") wide.

In perfect condition.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Imari porcelain produced by Royal Crown Derby is a style of fine china heavily inspired by Japanese export ceramics from the Arita region. It traditionally features an ornate, densely packed pattern executed in cobalt blue, iron red, and hand-applied gold gilding.

Traditional English Imari porcelain consists of fine bone china or soft-paste porcelain, decorated with underglaze cobalt blue and overglaze enamel colours, finished with burnished gold leaf or liquid gold gilding.

Authentic pieces feature backstamps on the underside, including the crowned cipher mark, pattern numbers (such as 6299), and year cipher marks that indicate the exact date of manufacture.

Miniature Imari vessels can be grouped on a mantelpiece, styled inside a curio cabinet, or placed atop a stack of design books on a side table to add rich colour and historical pattern to a room scheme.

Gilded porcelain should be dusted gently with a soft microfibre cloth. Avoid abrasive detergents, soaking, or mechanical washing, as water and friction can wear away delicate overglaze enamel and gold leaf.
