Description

A high quality London bracket clock featuring a double fusee movement with repeat.

The round painted dial displays Roman numerals, blued steel hands, strike/silent lever above number XII and the makers name Matthew Thomson of London.

A bracket clock is a compact spring-driven table clock originally designed to sit either on a dedicated matching wall bracket or a mantelpiece, originating in 17th-century England.

Cabinetmakers primarily utilised mahogany, walnut, or ebony for the exterior case, housing brass movements with steel arbors and hand-painted or silvered metal dials.

Authentic Regency examples feature flame mahogany veneers, brass inlaid motifs, cast brass bezel surrounds, and signed maker marks on the dial or movement backplate.

Position the clock centrally on a fireplace mantelpiece, executive desk, or sideboard top to establish an anchor point within classic or contemporary rooms.

Dust the case with a dry microfibre cloth, apply beeswax sparingly to the timber, and arrange for a qualified horologist to overhaul the mechanical movement every five to seven years.
