Antique Teak Ship’s Key Cabinet

1900 - 1920
Description

A lovely small teak cabinet dating from the late 19th / early 20th century. It is good quality with a wonderful rich colour and grain and has a recessed brass carrying handle, typical of naval pieces. The doors open to reveal 9 small brass key hooks - whether this was always its original purpose it's hard to say but it certainly lends itself to a key cabinet given its narrow size. The interior of the doors have interesting nautical stream line charts set in behind glass.

It is in good condition for its age and comes with a working key. It is strong and sturdy and generally clean and tidy inside. There are signs of age and use, some general knocks and marks but nothing detrimental. It has been cleaned and gently polished and is ready for use.

The best description comes from the photos so please look at them all carefully and if you have any questions just ask.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This compact cabinet dates from 1900 and is constructed from teak. The wood exhibits a deep reddish-brown tone with a pronounced natural grain, finished with a gentle polish. The exterior displays simple rectangular panelled double doors fitted with a small central keyhole and key, bordered by plain linear mouldings, alongside signs of age including surface marks and minor knocks. Standing 42 cm high, 39 cm wide, and 16 cm deep, the piece is designed for tabletop placement or wall mounting. In a contemporary home, this item provides practical storage for keys or small daily accessories in an entrance hallway or a study. The traditional proportions and warm timber finish allow it to integrate smoothly into both period and modern interior schemes.
