Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

During the mid-19th century, glassmakers produced heavy-bottomed tumblers intended for neat spirits. These pieces frequently feature moulded or hand-cut geometric patterns, such as arches or vertical flutes, around the lower section.

Glassware from this period was typically constructed from clear flint glass or lead crystal, providing structural weight. Vessels were hand-blown or press-moulded and often finished with cut panel details using wheel-grinding techniques.

Authentic pieces generally show slight variations in wall thickness, a ground or polished pontil scar on the underside, and natural rubbing wear around the base rim caused by historic surface contact.

Position the tumbler on a timber sideboard, brass drinks trolley, or within a glass-fronted cabinet alongside complementary period glassware to create a curated bar setup.

Wash the glass by hand in lukewarm water using a mild soap, avoiding rapid temperature changes that risk thermal shock. Dry promptly with a soft lint-free cloth and avoid dishwashers.
