Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Air twist wine glasses are 18th-century British drinking vessels characterised by decorative helical air channels enclosed within the glass stem. Popular during the mid-Georgian period from approximately 1740 to 1770, these pieces were developed as glassmakers sought creative design responses to weight-based raw material taxes.

These glasses were hand-blown using heavy lead glass, also known as flint glass. The air twist effect was created by piercing tiny air pockets into a gather of molten glass, which was subsequently drawn out, twisted, and encased in an outer layer of clear glass to form the stem.

Authentic period examples exhibit characteristics of hand manufacture, such as an irregular folded foot rim, a rough or ground pontil mark underneath the base, slight asymmetry in the twist, and a subtle greyish or purplish tint indicative of early lead glass formulations.

Period stemware is frequently displayed inside glazed cabinet doors, grouped on a illuminated sideboard tray, or incorporated into open shelving displays to capture light and highlight the internal stem detail.

Hand wash individual pieces in lukewarm water using a mild soap, avoiding sudden temperature changes that cause thermal shock. Dry thoroughly with a soft, lint-free microfibre cloth, and never clean historical glass in a mechanical dishwasher.
