Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This rustic Indian storage cupboard and wardrobe originates from the 1930 period and is constructed from reclaimed teak and iron. The piece displays a distressed blue and brown painted finish over raw timber, showing visible wear across its surfaces, alongside a moulded top cornice and panelled lower doors fitted with vertical iron slats. Further visual elements include simple metal hinges and small wooden framed panels beneath the grilled sections, combining functional storage with traditional craftsmanship. The wardrobe measures 123 cm wide by 45 cm deep and 214 cm high. Ideal for daily use in a modern bohemian home, this heavy double-door cabinet provides versatile storage space for clothing or linens when positioned in a bedroom, dressing room, or hallway.

FAQs

Traditionally handcrafted in regions across India such as Rajasthan, these cupboards often featured salvaged teak timber and vibrant painted finishes. They served as durable household storage units, combining utilitarian function with regional decorative architectural elements.

These cabinets are constructed from dense reclaimed teak wood, known for its weather resistance and stability, often joined using traditional mortise and tenon joinery. Doors frequently feature hand-forged iron bars or mesh screens alongside distressed layered paint finishes.

Authentic pieces typically exhibit multiple layers of aged paint, natural weathering, and visible grain variations characteristic of timber that has seen prior structural use. Inspecting the hardware for hand-hammered iron fittings and checking for traditional joinery methods also helps confirm origin.

A distressed painted cabinet functions well as a focal piece in a hallway, dining room, or bedroom to introduce texture and architectural interest. Pairing the weathered wooden texture with clean-lined modern accent pieces balances the room while highlighting the objects handcrafted quality.

Dust the surface regularly using a soft, dry microfibre cloth to avoid lifting flaky paint. Protect the finish from direct sunlight and excessive humidity, avoiding harsh liquid cleaners or abrasive sponges that could strip the original painted patina.
