Large “amphora” Austria Monumental Art Nouveau Pottery Vase, C. 1895–1910

£2,000    $2,696    €2,311
A monumental Austrian “Amphora” pottery vase of exceptional scale, produced circa 1895–1910 in Turn-Teplitz, Bohemia. At 51 cm high, this is a striking example from Amphora’s most ambitious artistic period.

Its tall, elegant form, wide flaring neck, sculptural base, and dramatic openwork handles create immediate visual impact. The pierced olive-green collar below the neck is particularly notable, with numerous hand-cut openings demonstrating exceptionally labour-intensive workmanship.

Rich stylised scrolls, foliate ornament, suspended teardrop motifs, and moulded relief decoration are combined with an ivory ground and olive, rose-brown, and gilt accents typical of Amphora’s finer artistic wares.

The underside bears the Amphora crown mark with AUSTRIA and model number 12000, confirming factory production within the celebrated Turn-Teplitz tradition.

Established by Alfred Stellmacher in 1892, Amphora rapidly became one of Europe’s leading producers of luxury artistic ceramics...
