Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Victorian mirror-back cabinet, often referred to as a chiffonier or credenza, is a decorative piece of storage furniture developed in the nineteenth century. It combines a lower cupboard base with a raised upper section containing mirrors and carved scrollwork.

These cabinets were predominantly crafted from dense hardwoods such as mahogany, rosewood, or walnut. They feature silvered glass mirror plates, hand-carved decorative motifs, and original brass hardware or lock mechanisms.

Authentic nineteenth-century examples feature hand-cut dovetail joints, evidence of hand-carving techniques, and period-correct glass with slight desilveration or imperfections. The solid wood elements will show natural patination and age-appropriate wear around handles and bases.

A dark mahogany cabinet creates contrast against neutral or deeply painted walls in modern dining rooms, entryways, or formal living spaces. Placing modern ceramics or subtle lighting nearby balances the heavy ornamentation of historical carved woodwork.

Maintain the finish by dusting regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and applying a high-quality natural beeswax polish twice a year. Keep the item away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent wood shrinkage, warping, and mirror backing deterioration.
