This Garrards mantel clock originates from the 1930 Georgian Revival period. Constructed from warm brown walnut with a polished finish, the piece has a rectangular wooden case with stepped mouldings below the top and an ogee moulded base. A polished brass carrying handle sits on the flat top, complementing the brass dial, which incorporates a silvered chapter ring, black Roman numerals, matted centre, and ornate brass spandrels in the corners. The clear glass door reveals two dark hands and winding holes. Measuring 25 cm high, 17 cm wide, and 12.5 cm deep, the clock suits placement on a mantelpiece in a gentleman's library, study, or living room. It functions as a traditional timepiece that adds period character and classic horological detail to interior spaces.

A bracket clock is a portable table clock housed in a rectangular wooden case, historically designed with a carrying handle on top and originally placed on a matching wall bracket.

Traditional bracket clocks are constructed using dense hardwoods such as walnut, mahogany, or ebony for the casing, combined with brass or silvered metal dials, cast brass spandrels, and glass viewing apertures.

Horologists inspect mechanical movement constructions, hand-engraved maker plates, cast brass spandrels at the dial corners, hand-finished timber joinery, and natural patination on brass components.

A traditional bracket clock provides visual weight when positioned centrally on a stone fireplace mantelpiece, flanked by modern ceramics, or integrated into a dark wooden bookshelf.

Maintain timber cases by dusting with a soft cloth and applying beeswax annually, whilst keeping the casing away from direct heat sources to prevent timber shrinkage or lacquer cracking.
