Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Opaline glass is a decorative, semi-translucent or opaque glass developed in France during the early nineteenth century and widely produced throughout the Victorian era. Highly prized for its milky appearance resembling opal or porcelain, it was frequently hand-painted or finished with fine gilding.

These vases were created by adding bone ash, tin oxide, or arsenic compounds to molten glass to achieve an iridescent milky appearance. The vessels were hand-blown, shaped into urn or pedestal forms, and subsequently decorated with delicate hand-applied gold leaf or enamel details.

Authentic Victorian opaline glass displays a distinctive subtle translucency with a warm orange or pink glowing halo when held up to a direct light source. Antique pieces typically feature hand-painted gilding showing slight natural surface wear, smooth ground pontil marks at the base, and soft hand-blown contours.

A symmetrical arrangement works effectively by placing the pair on a fireplace mantelpiece, console table, or dining sideboard. Their soft white colour tone and subtle gold accents pair elegantly with dark timber finishes, marble surfaces, or traditional painted cabinetry.

Clean opaline glass gently using warm water and a tiny amount of mild liquid soap, taking care around hand-painted gilding. Avoid abrasive cloths, chemical cleaners, or submersion in hot water, as surface friction can wear away delicate antique gold leaf detailing.
