Description

A magnificent Art Deco burr walnut cocktail cabinet by Epstein. This was made in England, it dates from the 1920’s.

It is of outstanding quality, the top has beautifully fluted doors with bakelite handles. There is gorgeous floral carving at top of the grooved legs, which run down from the centre of the cabinet and sweep out with acanthus leaf carving towards the lower platform base. The interior is beautifully fitted out with sycamore drawers and a cabinet with a built in bottle rack. There are shelves in the doors and a mirrored peach glass upper section with a slide out serving tray. The burr walnut grain patterns and colour tones are stunning.

We have had this stripped and re-polished to a very high standard, the condition is superb.

Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

The Art Deco movement emerged in France during the 1910s and flourished internationally during the 1920s and 1930s, characterised by sleek geometric shapes, streamlined forms, and luxurious materials such as burr walnut, chrome, and exotic veneers.

Period drinks cabinets were typically constructed using solid secondary woods like mahogany or oak, faced with highly figured decorative veneers such as burr walnut, and often featured specialised internal fittings like mirrored backs, glass shelves, and pull-out mixing slides.

Authentic pieces are identified through construction hallmarks such as traditional dovetail joinery, hand-polished shellac or lacquer finishes, symmetrical veneer book-matching, and maker marks or badges associated with prominent cabinet makers of the era.

A statement drinks cabinet can be integrated into a contemporary setting by positioning it as a focal point in a living room or dining space, accessorised with period glassware and barware to balance historical charm with modern functionality.

Preserve antique veneer by maintaining stable indoor humidity levels, avoiding direct sunlight to prevent fading, dusting regularly with a soft dry cloth, and occasionally applying appropriate microcrystalline wax to protect the polished surface.
