Georgian Sugar Bowl, Blue Glass Rim

Description

This is a Georgian, hand-blown glass sugar bowl with an applied blue glass rim dating from the turn of the 18th/19th centuries, c1800.

The bowl is in excellent condition for its age. It shows age related wear and tear to the rim of the base consistent with some 220 years of use. It has a rough pontil mark on the base.

The bowl is of cup form in the clear colourway and measures 11.8 cm (4.7 inches) in diameter at the rim which has a band of applied blue glass. The bowl is plain other than for the blue rim and sits on a small pedestal foot that measures 6.2 cm. (2.5 inches) in diameter. The bowl is 7.2 cm (2.9 inches) in height. There are no chips, cracks, significant scratches or any evidence of restoration.

Lead glass. It weighs 207 g. (~ 7 1/4 oz.).
