A finely matched pair of Japanese Kyoto-school Satsuma vases signed Hakusan (??), produced c. 1890–1915. Each vase displays an elegant ovoid body with gently flared rim and a brocade shoulder border composed of fan-shaped panels filled with diaper and wave motifs in blue, apricot, and gilt. Beneath, cascading wisteria blooms frame scenes of bijin and children strolling among chrysanthemums and reeds.
The painting is crisp, the palette harmonious, and the gold lavishly but precisely applied with fine moriage highlights. Bases carry neat black-and-gold Hakusan cartouches.
