Microscope slide cabinets were manufactured in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries to organise and protect glass biological and geological specimens for researchers, educators, and amateur naturalists.

These cabinets were typically constructed from dense hardwoods such as mahogany, oak, or walnut, featuring precision-fitted internal slots, brass hardware, and numbered ivorine labels for cataloguing.

Authentic pieces exhibit period-correct joinery, aged patina on the timber, hand-carved or printed ivorine numbering tags, and traditional hand-turned wooden or metal drawer pulls.

This piece works well as a desktop organiser or accent feature within a study or living space, paired with curated curiosities and natural specimens to highlight its academic heritage.

Maintain these cabinets by keeping them out of direct sunlight and high humidity, cleaning only with a dry, soft cloth, and avoiding harsh chemical polishes that can damage aged finishes and delicate ivorine labels.
