This clear Victorian lead crystal wine goblet originates from England around 1870. The piece displays a goblet-shaped bowl decorated with cut fronds and frosted botanical leaf motifs, supported by a slice-cut baluster stem above a circular foot finished with a multi-point starburst pattern. The glass measures 19 cm high, 9 cm wide, and 9 cm deep, with a bowl depth of 9.5 cm. Suitable for display or practical use, this item sits well on a dining table or sideboard top to serve wine during dinner parties or celebratory meals. It also functions as a decorative object in a cabinet or on shelving units within a living area or dining room.

FAQs

During the Victorian period, glassmakers combined deep wheel-cutting techniques with acid etching or sandblasting to craft contrasting clear and opaque frosted surface patterns on stemware.

These goblets were free-blown from heavy lead crystal glass, after which lapidary wheels cut facets into the stem and base, while acid or abrasive treatments created frosted decorative motifs on the bowl.

Authentic 19th-century cut glass displays hand-cut facets with crisp edges, substantial weight due to high lead content, and subtle variations in decoration indicative of hand crafting.

Victorian glass goblets can be arranged inside a glazed display cabinet, incorporated into a dining table layout as water glasses, or displayed alongside modern decanters on a sideboard.

Wash stemware by hand in lukewarm water using mild liquid soap and a soft cloth, avoiding automated dishwashers and harsh abrasive cleaners that could cloud or damage the cut glass detail.
