Description

A large 17th century welsh coffer of large proportions and constructed from oak. The chest has a carved top rail with its original lock that is flanked by kissing wivern, and below is a sequence of 9 moulded panels. The top has been altered slightly as it has some later 19th century brass hinges which are fixed to the last board of the lid which has been nailed down. The coffer has some old minor restorations to the top which has bowed with age, and the rear feet have been tipped also, with some other old restorations in place and old signs of wood worm in a couple of areas which is no longer active. Overall the chest is in good solid condition and has stunning colour and patina to the timbers.
