This seventeenth-century Jacobean coffer box is constructed from solid oak with a dark brown finish and iron hardware. The piece presents a two-panel front design mounted with tall upright stile legs, a carved lunette frieze, and a prominent decorative iron keyhole plate centrally positioned on the front. Additional visible elements include raised panel borders and visible timber grain across the surfaces. Measuring Width 98 cm, Height 61 cm, and Depth 50.2 cm, this small-proportioned storage chest provides compact utility. In a contemporary home, this traditional box serves as functional storage positioned in a hallway, bedroom, or living room for linens, blankets, or household items, while simultaneously operating as an accent surface. The sturdy timber construction offers a stable top surface for displaying decorative objects or serving as a low bench when closed. The compact scale enables placement in smaller reception rooms or entryways where floor space is limited, bringing traditional English country house character into daily use.

A 17th-century oak coffer is a joiner-made wooden storage chest featuring panelled sides and a hinged lid, widely produced during the Jacobean and Carolean periods in England.

They were constructed using solid oak timber assembled with mortise and tenon joinery secured with wooden pegs, frequently decorated with relief carvings along the top frieze and frame.

Authentic period coffers display hand-planed surfaces, irregular wooden pegging, period ironwork such as strap or pin hinges, and natural wood shrinkage along panel joins accumulated over centuries.

A dark oak coffer serves as an effective hallway bench, blanket chest at the foot of a bed, or occasional low table, offering functional storage while introducing historic timber warmth to neutral rooms.

Keep the piece away from direct heat sources and radiators to prevent wood movement, dust regularly with a dry cloth, and apply beeswax polish periodically to maintain the surface patina.
