George III Verge Bracket Clock

JOHN NORTON, LONDON: a good quality 18th century George III period mahogany BRACKET CLOCK in full working order. The finely-figured mahogany case, typically of the third quarter of the 18th century, features a ‘bell’ top surmounted by the cast brass carrying handle; brass “lattice” fretwork panels to the sides and top of the front door; fine ogee mouldings around the glazing to the front door and raised on cast brass ogee feet.
 
The eight-day verge movement, features a finely-engraved backplate and strikes hours on a bell, repeating the hours at will via the pull cord, whilst the good chapter-ring-and-spandrells dial incorporates “Strike/Silent” control in the arch; mock pendulum; date aperture above “VI” and well-engraved silvered chapter rings and maker’s nameplate. In perfect working order and guaranteed for two years. 20ins high (handle down); 12ins wide; 8ins deep.
