Edwardian furniture, produced during the reign of King Edward VII from 1901 to 1910, often lighter in proportion than Victorian pieces, drew heavy inspiration from 18th-century Sheraton, Chippendale, and Hepplewhite designs.

Cabinetmakers of this period predominantly used high-quality timbers such as mahogany, walnut, and satinwood, frequently featuring fine veneer work, crossbanding, and brass or wooden hardware.

Authentic pieces typically display period construction methods such as hand-cut dovetail joints in drawers, traditional timber shrinkage, appropriate patination, and occasionally maker stamps or paper labels from prominent retailers of the era.

Pairing historical wooden furniture with contemporary lighting, clean walls, and minimalist accessories creates a balanced, layered aesthetic that highlights the warmth and craftsmanship of the antique piece.

Maintain antique wood by keeping it away from direct sunlight and radiators to prevent timber splitting, applying microcrystalline wax periodically, and avoiding silicone-based polishes.
