Carriage clocks originated in France during the early 19th century as portable timepieces designed for travellers, military officers, and nobility to carry during transit.

Authentic period pieces are typically crafted from cast brass frames fitted with bevelled glass panels and feature intricate mechanical brass gear movements inside.

Authentication involves examining the hand-cut mechanical movement, verifying the presence of matching serial numbers, checking for bevelled glass panes, and inspecting the original winding key.

Place the timepiece on a flat surface such as a mantelpiece, bookshelf, or office desk where its metallic sheen and glass panels can catch the ambient light.

Maintain the piece by keeping it away from direct moisture, dusting the brass gently with a soft cloth, and having the internal mechanical movement professionally serviced every few years.
