A Charming Satinwood Mantel Clock

£1,250    $1,714    €1,448
JOSEPH MERRICK, WINDSOR: a small and very pretty late Regency/William IV period “Four-Glass” MANTEL CLOCK in beautiful condition and in full working order. Measuring just a fraction over 9ins high, the well-figured satinwood case features a shaped and carved pediment; a pretty moulded plinth and original solid compressed bun feet, with thick bevelled glass panels to the sides. The eight day movement is very finely engineered, with its chain-driven fusee and precision brass pendulum whilst the silvered 4-inch wide dial features finely engraved ‘spandrels’ and the signature: “Merrick Windsor”.

A charming, compact and beautifully engineered mantel clock in full working order, dated circa 1840-45 and guaranteed for at least two years. Thoroughly recommended.

** JOSEPH MERRICK: active 1837-1853: see Loomes (2006).
