An Edwardian skeleton clock is a timepiece designed with exposed gear trains and framework, allowing the intricate mechanical movement to be viewed from all sides, typically protected by a glass dome.

These clocks are primarily constructed from brass or gilt-bronze for the framework and gear train, housed beneath a blown glass dome that rests on a wooden or velvet-lined ebonised base.

Authentic pieces feature hand-cut brass gears, traditional fusee or spring-driven movements, blued steel hands, and period-appropriate escapements, often showing natural oxidation and hand-finishing marks.

Position the clock on a flat surface such as a mantelpiece, sideboard, or study desk where natural light can highlight the complex mechanics, allowing it to serve as an architectural focal point.

Keep the glass dome in place to prevent dust accumulation on the delicate mechanism, avoid direct sunlight and moisture, and have the mechanical movement professionally serviced every few years.
