Kutani ware is a style of Japanese porcelain traditionally characterised by vibrant overglaze polychrome painting, originating from the Kutani kilns in Kaga province dating back to the 17th century.

Kutani pieces are crafted from local fine clay and porcelain, hand-painted using mineral pigments featuring rich iron red, green, purple, yellow, and blue, heavily accented with gold leaf details.

Authentic pieces typically feature hand-painted artisan signatures or kiln marks on the underside, intricate multi-layered enamel work, and appropriate surface wear consistent with age.

These statement vessels can be displayed as focal points on sideboards, consoles, or mantels, pairing well with neutral backdrops to highlight their detailed metallic and enamel artwork.

Dust gently with a soft, dry microfibre cloth and avoid using chemical cleaners, immersion in water, or abrasive materials that could damage the delicate overglaze enamel and gilding.
