Augustus Rex porcelain originally referred to pieces produced at the Meissen factory for Augustus II the Strong, Elector of Saxony, marked with the monogram AR. In the 19th century, private Dresden decorators adopted this monogram to embellish Rococo-style wares featuring galante courting scenes, rich gilding, and brightly coloured panel grounds.
