Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Moorcroft pottery is renowned for its distinctive tubelined design technique, pioneered by William Moorcroft at James Macintyre & Co. and later at his own pottery in Burslem. Established in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the manufactory became a cornerstone of British art pottery, celebrated for its rich glazes and stylised botanical motifs.

Moorcroft pieces are traditionally hand-thrown from clay and decorated using the tubelining technique. Artisans squeeze a fine line of liquid clay (slip) onto the body to outline the design, creating raised borders that act as barriers for subsequent hand-painted enamel glazes before firing.

Authentic pieces are identified by hand-painted or impressed maker marks on the underside, often including William Moorcrofts signature, monogram initials, or later factory ciphers and year markers. Additionally, the characteristic raised tubelined outlines and deep, mottled colour transitions are hallmarks of genuine production.

Art pottery pieces function effectively as focal display objects on open shelving, mantelpieces, or side tables where light can catch the glaze variations. Pairing them with neutral backdrops allows the rich colours and intricate surface textures to stand out without visual competition.

Ceramic vessels should be dusted gently with a soft, dry cloth and kept out of direct sunlight to prevent glaze fading. Submerging in water or using chemical cleaning agents should be avoided to protect the integrity of the earthenware body and painted surfaces.
