Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This nineteenth-century French Louis XV style bow-front commode functions as a compact chest of drawers for a sophisticated bedroom or hallway setting today. Constructed from warm brown rosewood and kingwood, the cabinet showcases geometric marquetry inlay with lighter boxwood stringing across its two drawers. A shaped multicolored marble slab top rests on the upper surface, complemented by decorative gilt ormolu mounts on the corners and apron, keyhole escutcheons, and curved rococo handles. The piece stands on slender cabriole legs and has been cleaned and polished. The commode measures 85 cm high, 65 cm wide, and 38 cm deep. Placed in a drawing room or beside a bed, the chest offers practical surface space and concealed storage while adding classic continental styling to interior spaces.

FAQs

A French Louis XV style commode is characterised by curved outlines, cabriole legs, intricate timber marquetry, ornate gilt bronze mounts, and a contoured marble top.

Dust the timber marquetry using a soft microfibre cloth, apply neutral stone cleaners exclusively to the marble surface, and maintain stable indoor humidity to prevent veneer movement.

Position the piece as an accent feature in a hallway or bedroom, contrasting its detailed woodwork with contemporary abstract artwork or minimal lighting.

Authentic pieces feature hand-cut dovetail joints on drawers, hand-carved cabinet timber, chiseled gilt bronze fittings, and unpolished marble undersides showing historic saw marks.

These storage pieces typically incorporate hardwood construction veneered with exotic timber marquetry, finished with cast ormolu mounts and topped with heavy cut marble slabs.
