The case is in mahogany and is typical of the region. An unusual feature is the faux brickwork to the base.
It has a good quality 8 day movement with a very smart brass dial. It has a silvered chapter ring and gilt brass spendrels, a subsidiary seconds dial and date window. To the arch it displays the phases of the moon. An unusual feature is that it strikes the hours on a coiled gong. This may be a Victorian conversion.
The case has seen some restoration over the years and has been repolished. The polish isn't the best job I have seen but this is reflected in the price. Better finished clocks of this type are listed for several thousands of pounds
The movement is in good working order and keeping good time.
