Description

A magnificent Art Deco burr walnut cocktail cabinet by Epstein. This was made in England, it dates from the 1920’s.

It is of outstanding quality, the top has beautifully fluted doors with bakelite handles. There is gorgeous floral carving at top of the grooved legs, which run down from the centre of the cabinet and sweep out with acanthus leaf carving towards the lower platform base. The interior is beautifully fitted out with sycamore drawers and a cabinet with a built in bottle rack. There are shelves in the doors and a mirrored peach glass upper section with a slide out serving tray. The burr walnut grain patterns and colour tones are stunning.

We have had this stripped and re-polished to a very high standard, the condition is superb.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Art Deco emerged in France during the 1910s and flourished internationally throughout the 1920s and 1930s, characterised by sleek geometric shapes, streamlined forms, and lavish materials such as burr walnut, chrome, and exotic veneers.

These pieces typically utilise solid wood frames heavily veneered with highly figured timbers like burr walnut, amboyna, or Macassar ebony, often featuring hand-polished shellac finishes and specialist brass or chromium hardware.

Authentic period items exhibit traditional joinery techniques, genuine period veneers with natural oxidisation, original hardware, and maker marks or construction characteristics consistent with 1920s to 1940s manufacturing standards.

Position the cabinet as a focal point in a living room or entertaining space, complementing its rich wood tones with neutral backdrops, metallic accents, and atmospheric lighting to highlight the figured grain.

Maintain burr walnut surfaces by keeping them out of direct sunlight, avoiding excessive moisture or heat fluctuations, and periodically cleaning with a soft, dry cloth followed by professional wax polishing.
