A very fine example is superb original condition.

Air twist glass refers to mid-18th-century British stemware featuring decorative spiral air channels within the stem. The technique gained popularity around 1740 as a response to the 1745 Glass Excise Act, which taxed glass by weight, prompting glassmakers to introduce hollow air spirals to reduce material mass while adding ornamentation.

These glasses were hand-blown using heavy lead crystal, also known as flint glass. Artisans created the air twist by trapping air pockets within a gather of molten glass, which was then extended and twisted before being shaped into knops and joined to the bowl and foot.

Authentic mid-18th-century examples typically display hand-blown features, such as slight asymmetry, small air seeds or inclusions, a greyish tint characteristic of period lead glass, and wear along the base of the conical foot.
