Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Kutani ware is a style of Japanese porcelain traditionally produced in Ishikawa prefecture. Originating in the 17th century, the style experienced a major revival in the 19th century, renowned for its vibrant colour palettes and intricate pictorial designs.

Kutani pieces are crafted from high-fired white porcelain clay and decorated using overglaze enamel pigments. Artisans traditionally apply extensive detailing in iron red and gold, known as the aka-e style.

Authentic pieces often feature hand-painted artisan or kiln marks on the base, alongside characteristic thick enamel work with tactile raised details. The weight of the porcelain and the precision of the hand-drawn motifs are key indicators of age and origin.

These vases can serve as striking focal points on a sideboard or mantelpiece, contrasting against neutral walls or minimalist contemporary furniture. Their rich metallic accents complement organic textures like dark wood or polished stone.

Clean porcelain gently using a soft, dry microfibre cloth to remove dust. Avoid using water, harsh chemical cleaners, or abrasive materials, which can damage the delicate overglaze enamel and gold leaf detailing.
