FAQs

Faience refers to tin-glazed earthenware developed in Europe, heavily influenced by imported Chinese porcelain and traditional Islamic pottery styles.

These pieces are crafted from buff or reddish earthenware clay, coated with an opaque white tin glaze, and hand-painted with metallic oxide pigments before firing.

Authenticity is determined by examining crazing patterns in the glaze, microscopic wear consistent with age, manual brushwork irregularities, and the composition of the underlying ceramic body.

Display them as focal points on a mantelpiece or sideboard to introduce historical pattern, artisanal texture, and classic colour contrast to modern spaces.

Clean gently with a dry, soft microfiber cloth, avoid all liquid immersion or chemical cleaning agents, and keep them away from direct, prolonged sunlight to protect the glaze.
