A stunningly beautiful vase created by the renowned English designer William Moorcroft. This vase is exceptionally large—one could say unusually so.
Notably, it was created in 1913, a very significant year for William Moorcroft, as it was the year he founded W. Moorcroft Ltd. The vase is signed in green by William Moorcroft on the bottom. The first pieces of fine art pottery from Moorcroft were designed by William Moorcroft and introduced to the world in 1897 while he was employed at James Macintyre & Co. A graduate of what is now the Royal College of Art in London, Moorcroft’s work quickly attracted attention, with pieces purchased by prestigious stores such as Liberty of London, Harrods, and Tiffany & Co. in New York.
Early Moorcroft pieces are highly prized by esteemed auction houses globally and regularly achieve high prices. This tradition continues today, with Moorcroft art pottery celebrated for its artistic merit and solid investment qualities, proven over more than a century. In 1913, with substantial backing from Liberty, William Moorcroft relocated production to the current factory on Sandbach Road under the name W. Moorcroft Ltd. In 1928, after winning numerous gold medals and prestigious international awards, Moorcroft was appointed ‘Potter to H.M. The Queen,’ an honor William proudly accepted on behalf of his company.
Throughout her lifetime, Queen Elizabeth II regularly added new Moorcroft designs to the Royal Collection, something about which Moorcroft is justifiably proud. The reputation of Moorcroft has drawn many other notable collectors, including Leonard A. Lauder, President of the Estée Lauder cosmetics empire, who has one of the largest Moorcroft collections in the world, as well as former U.S. Presidents, British Prime Ministers, and celebrated actors and musicians. The quality of Moorcroft design and the artistic skill of its artisans have allowed the company to continue supplying Liberty of London for more than a century, and today
..., Moorcroft is sold globally, bringing a kaleidoscope of color to an international audience.
