Antique Porcelain Cherub Figurine/vase, Richard Eckert, Dresden, 1909

19th century
Description

This antique hand-painted porcelain figurine, designed as a vase with a cherub, was crafted by Richard Eckert in Dresden, Germany, in 1909. The vase is styled as two truncated tree trunks, with a cherub sitting atop, playing a flute. The piece is delicately glazed and hand-painted, featuring a lifelike expression and intricate details, showcasing the remarkable craftsmanship of German artisans. The vase is further embellished with finely crafted, applied flowers, woven into a garland, adding both aesthetic appeal and refinement. The polychrome hand-painting provides the item with a beautiful three-dimensional effect. Functionally, the piece can serve as a flower vase or a pencil holder. The manufacturer's hallmark is present on the base.

Dresdner Kunstverlag (Dresden Art Publishing House) was founded by Richard Eckert, who had previously worked at the renowned Aelteste Volkstedter Porzellanfabrik AG in Volkstedt. In 1909, he employed highly skilled craftsmen and opened the small studio Dresdener Kunstverlag Richard Eckert, which operated for only nine years, until 1918. He produced figurines in styles akin to the most famous porcelain manufacturers of the time, matching their level of quality.

As noted, the studio was small and short-lived, making pieces bearing his mark rare treasures today.

Dimensions: Height 19 cm, width 11 cm, depth 8.5 cm, weight 432 grams.

Condition: Some flower petals are chipped, and there is a small firing crack at the base. Otherwise, the condition is excellent. Please study the accompanying photographs carefully as they form an integral part of this description. The item will be shipped with full tracking and insurance. It is important to note that the shipping costs include labor, packaging, and postage.
