Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Hand-painted glass light shades became prominent during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries in France, particularly during the Art Nouveau movement. Manufacturers produced frosted or satin finish glass decorated with enamel flora and gilt details to soften the glow of early gas and electric lighting.

These shades were typically blown or pressed using frosted, satin, or etched glass. Skilled artisans then applied coloured mineral enamels and liquid gold leaf by hand before kiln-firing the glass to permanently fuse the decorative motifs.

Authentic period shades display signs of hand craftsmanship, such as subtle variations in enamel thickness, slight wear to gilding around high-touch edges, and smooth or ground fitter rims. Mold lines on antique blown glass are often less pronounced than on modern reproductions.

A painted glass shade can be fitted onto modern brass, copper, or bronze ceiling pendants or wall sconces. Suspended in a hallway, cloakroom, or above a bedside table, it introduces historical texture and diffuse accent lighting into contemporary spaces.

Dust the shade gently with a soft microfibre cloth. If washing is necessary, use lukewarm water and mild dish soap, taking care not to scrub hand-painted enamel or gilded areas, and avoid harsh chemical cleaners or dishwashers entirely.
