Georgian, English, Masonic-engraved Firing Glass

19th century
Description

This is a late Georgian, English, Masonic-engraved firing glass dating from the beginning of the 19th century, c1820.

The glass is in excellent condition for its age. This means, of course, that it shows some age related wear and tear to the rim of the base although it is very light considering it is some 200 years old. It has a polished out pontil mark on the underside of the base.

The glass has a waisted bucket-shaped bowl measuring 5.8 cm. (2.3 inches) in diameter at the rim. The bowl is engraved with a number of Masonic symbols including set square, pair of compasses, sun, moon etc. The base measures 4 cm. (1.6 inches) in diameter. The glass is 7 cm (2.8 inches) in height. There are no chips, cracks, significant scratches or any obvious evidence of restoration.

It is made from lead metal weighing 115 g. (~ 4 oz.)
