A rummer is a traditional heavy-bottomed drinking glass that became popular in Britain during the late 18th and 19th centuries, primarily used for serving wine, ale, and punch.

These drinking vessels were typically mouth-blown using lead glass or flint glass, often featuring a ribbed or plain bucket bowl supported by a short, sturdy stem and a conical foot.

Authentic pieces often exhibit pontil marks on the underside of the base, minor surface imperfections or air bubbles from manual blowing, and a distinctive heavy weight characteristic of high lead content.

They can be displayed within glass-fronted cabinets, used as table centrepieces filled with small florals, or utilised practically for formal dining settings to add historic character.

Antique glass should be washed exclusively by hand in warm water using mild detergent, avoiding harsh scrubbing or sudden temperature changes to prevent thermal shock and damage.
