Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

FAQs

Late 19th-century wall clocks often incorporate eclectic revival styles, combining rich timber veneers with intricate marquetry and geometric or organic carvings influenced by Victorian tastes.

These pieces typically feature a solid wood or veneered carcass, frequently utilising walnut or mahogany, accented with contrasting wood inlay, hand-carved decorative brackets, and enamelled dials with Roman numerals.

Authenticity is assessed by examining the ageing of the timber, hand-cut dovetail joints, mechanical movement quality, hand-painted or enamelled dial wear, and traditional construction marks consistent with late 19th-century manufacturing.

An antique wall clock serves as a strong focal point when mounted on a plain, neutral wall, allowing its detailed woodwork and historic character to contrast effectively against modern minimalist decor.

Preservation involves keeping the clock away from direct sunlight and fluctuating humidity, periodically waxing the wooden case with appropriate furniture polish, and having the mechanical movement serviced by a professional horologist.
