A very impressive large late 19th century Japanese lidded Kutani vase. Having a classical dog of faux with ball finial, painted scenes of scholars seated with scrolls, surrounded by attendants. The orange ground with classical motif and symbols, the reverse side having exotic birds and flowers set in smaller painted panels.
