Very Rare Huge Georgian Antique Apothecary Cabinet- Original Paint & Gilt

18th century
Description

Very Rare Huge Georgian Antique Apothecary Cabinet- Original Paint & Gilt

A very rare and fabulous Late Georgian large-scale honest antique apothecary shop display cabinet from the Lake District. An amazing survivor, a real museum piece from a bygone age of a shop dispensing quack medicine remedies. Very well made in solid pine, great proportions and still in the original black paint finish and with lovely original gilt finials to the top arched section, inside the top display area is still in the most wonderful, original Georgian flat drab green paint finish. The arched top section has four, lovely original astragal glazed doors with flat columns to either side. Even the twelve adjustable pine shelves are still in the original pinky Georgian paint finish. The base of this Cumbrian late 18th century antique apothecary cabinet has forty original drawers with original hand painted and gilt labels for their remedy contents. Very unusual as they are all for Quack Doctor remedies such as, Spice Nuts, Scotts Pills, Dixons Pills, Occult Lozenges, Camomile Pils, Sem Anisi, Cephalic Snuff, Hoopers Pills, Franks Steoific, Issue Plaisters, Scouring Drops, Atkinsons Preserve, Diuretic Balls, Cockles Pills, Parrs Pillss, Hunts Pills, Godfreys Cordial, Leeimngs Essence, Welchs Pills, Aromatic Vinegar, Henrys Magnesia, Ligmun Drops, Powells Balsalm, James Ointment, Toothbrushes, Nails Brushes. There are twelve drawers with blank original gilt labels, names have never been added. Complete with original drawer handles and ball bun feet. It is just fascinating looking up all these various remedies and some a little alarming too! This really is a very special rare piece in such amazing condition, was kept for years in two pieces away from sight. A fabulous Georgian antique original painted pine large scale Apothecary shop display cabinet, originally made around 1800 for a South Lake District property. Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
