Condition / Servicing Note:

Please note that antique clocks are complex and sensitive mechanical objects. While some clocks may be running at the time of listing we cannot guarantee ongoing performance without a full inspection and testing period by our specialist horologist. Where inspection, testing, or servicing is required this process can take between 2–12 weeks depending on the clock, the work needed, and current workload. This careful approach helps ensure the clock is properly assessed rather than rushed.

Clock Warranty

All clocks purchased from London City Antiques are supplied with a 12-month warranty from the date of purchase.

This warranty covers mechanical faults and failures arising from normal use. It does not extend to damage resulting from improper handling, unauthorised tampering, accidental or physical damage, environmental factors (including humidity, temperature fluctuations, or exposure to direct sunlight), or misuse.

Should a clock develop a genuine fault within the warranty period that meets the above conditions, we will, at our discretion and at no cost to you, arrange for the repair or replacement of any defective parts. All remedial work will be carried out by a fully qualified and experienced horologist.

In the unlikely event that a fault cannot be satisfactorily resolved, a full refund will be offered.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Victorian desk and mantel clocks typically feature architectural cases crafted from rich hardwoods such as walnut, mahogany, or oak. Designed for domestic interiors during the mid-to-late 19th century, these timepieces combine mechanical movements with refined cabinetmaking details.

These clocks were generally constructed using solid wood sub-frames with decorative walnut or rosewood veneers. Additional components include cast brass bezels, glazed face covers, and white enamel or painted dials featuring black Roman numerals.

Authentic pieces usually exhibit natural signs of age, such as slight patination on brass elements and hand-carved or turned wooden details. They frequently feature mechanical key-wind movements with dual winding arbours on the dial face rather than modern quartz mechanisms.

A Victorian clock can be placed on an executive office desk, bookshelf, or sideboard to introduce textural warmth and historical interest. It pairs effectively with dark wood furniture, modern brass accents, and minimalist study settings.

Preserve the wooden case by dusting regularly with a soft cloth and applying beeswax polish sparingly along the wood grain. Keep the item away from direct sunlight or heat sources, and ensure the mechanical movement is inspected and oiled by a professional horologist.
