An opaque twist dram glass is a small drinking vessel featuring a stem decorated with white or coloured enamel glass threads, popular during the mid-to-late 18th century for serving strong spirits like whisky.

These pieces were typically crafted from lead glass, which incorporated lead oxide for increased weight and brilliance, combined with opaque white enamel rods drawn from a separate batch of glass to form the internal stem twists.

Authentic pieces often exhibit pontil marks on the base, minor surface wear or scratches consistent with age, irregularities in the glass such as tiny air bubbles, and hand-formed stems rather than machine-made uniformity.

Antique glassware can be displayed inside illuminated glass cabinets, arranged on open shelving for textural contrast, or used as a standalone decorative accent on a mantelpiece or side table to add historical depth.

Antique glass should be washed by hand in lukewarm water using a mild, non-abrasive detergent, avoiding sudden temperature changes to prevent thermal shock, and dried carefully with a lint-free cloth.
